Central England Quakers’ new Peace Hub opened on 10 November. The team behind it aims ‘to inspire the public to take action for peace and justice, and help build a community of peacemakers in the West Midlands’, coordinator Peter Doubtfire told the Friend.

Every six weeks the Hub will focus on a different peace and justice theme, with the first being the UK arms trade. Each theme will be featured in a window display, rolling presentation on an electronic screen, flyers and briefings.

There will also be a specific action that people can take for each theme – for the arms trade there is a petition calling for an arms embargo to countries where violent repression occurs.

‘Next year we hope to open a resource centre in the basement, where people can borrow books and other resources to support their actions for peace and justice,’ Peter added.

The team hopes to work with both Quaker and non-Quaker groups. The Hub is open to the public on weekday lunchtimes. While it is up and running now, it will be formally opened in February 2015.
