Being a Quaker: membership

Ian Kirk-Smith reports on the theme of Yearly Meeting Gathering

‘What it means to be a Quaker today: commitment and belonging’ was the theme of the 2014 Yearly Meeting Gathering.

The spiritual basis of trusteeship and of service had been explored in the past two years. At Bath the focus on commitment and belonging included an exploration of what membership means for Friends.

Friends used a variety of ways, over the week, to address the subject and to deepen their understanding. There were opportunities to participate in plenary sessions, special interest meetings and option sessions, and by taking part in a series of ‘Journeys’ that were spread across three of the afternoons.
