Barbarity or heroism?

David Amos asks some challenging questions

Each day there are reports of alarm and atrocity. We are being asked almost daily to seek out those amongst us whose lifestyle, culture or views are unfamiliar and inimical to us. We are asked to condemn these people as demons. These are people we have not met and cannot know.

In the current climate of media hysteria and political posturing over the execution of hostages by Islamic State, perhaps we as Friends need to be careful how we react to the hunt for such ‘demons’. Let us search for, find and respond to that of God in these young men because that is where the seeds of peace may germinate, take root and flourish.
