Artwork from Art the Arms Fair on display
Artwork first shown at Art the Arms Fair is on display at Swarthmoor Hall
A small exhibition of artworks devised as a response to the arms trade and first shown at the Art the Arms Fair in September 2017 was opened this month.
The ‘Collateral Damage’ exhibition is at Swarthmoor Hall in Ulverston. It includes work mostly by Quaker artists and runs until 27 August.
Jane Pearson, manager of Swarthmoor Hall, told the Friend: ‘The wonderful thing is that it’s a fundraiser for Campaign Against Arms Trade [CAAT]. We’re selling originals and prints, including a lovely piece by Ann Johnson called Remember the Animals of War. Some of the work will be sold at discount, as we’re the last place on the tour.’
The exhibition includes work by Jill Gibbon, Amy Corcoran, Erik Dries, Elizabeth Eade, Robert D Hayward, Linda Murgatroyd and Romy Neale.
Art the Arms Fair’s aim was to cast a spotlight on the Defence and Security Equipment International (DSEI) arms fair, which takes place every two years at the ExCeL centre in London’s Docklands.
Another is planned for 2019.
For the 2017 fair, the artist Banksy donated an original piece of artwork, which raised £205,000 split between Reprieve and CAAT.
