‘Arms to renewables’ supported by Harpenden
Harpenden Meeting heard from Campaign Against Arms Trade
Many of the skills employed in the arms trade could be put to better use in the renewable energy industry, Harpenden Friends and visitors heard last week.
‘Arms to renewables’ was the theme of a talk given by Matt Burnett-Stuart, of Campaign against the Arms Trade (CAAT) and formerly of Quaker Peace & Social Witness. His presentation was based on CAAT’s current campaign.
‘Many people have misgivings about the manufacture of weapons, but are concerned about the number of jobs that would be lost if it were discontinued, and this campaign is an imaginative answer to that concern,’ Harpenden Meeting assistant clerk Joe French said.
