Paul Parker signs anti-corruption letter to David Cameron

by Tara Craig 13th May 2016

Paul Parker, recording clerk of Britain Yearly Meeting, was among fourteen faith leaders who wrote to prime minister David Cameron about an anti-corruption summit in London on 12 May.

The letter was sent on 9 May, and drew attention to the global harm caused by secrecy in UK tax havens, and to the need for reform. It said: ‘It is disappointing that more progress has not been made around the world on public registers of beneficial ownership since the G8 that you led in 2013.’

‘We welcome your announcement that the UK’s Overseas Territories and Crown Dependencies will adopt registers of beneficial ownership. However, because developing countries will not benefit from these, we urge you to ensure that they are made publicly available’.

Among the other signatories were doctor Hany El Banna, chairman of the Muslim Charities Forum; David Ison, dean of St Paul’s Cathedral; and Rabbi Danny Rich, chief executive of Liberal Judaism.
