Banbury and Evesham Friends are to host their annual public talk at the historic Adderbury Meeting House, after two years online. This year’s free talk on 19 June will be given by activist, writer, public speaker and trainer Linda Aspey, on the theme ‘Climate seems to be the hardest word’.

Amanda Howson, from Banbury Meeting, said the event is ‘an important part of our outreach, and aimed to reach ‘the wider local community, including those who are, and those who are not yet, engaged with the issue of climate change’.

‘We all know that climate change is getting worse, along with ecological destruction, but most people find it really hard to talk about… All the while our kids are telling us to do something – but often we don’t really know what anyone can do, given the scale of the problems… Yet research shows that when we learn how to talk, we actually feel better rather than worse. We begin to realise that we’re not alone… that we can make a difference.’

Linda Aspey works with individuals, and groups who want to take positive action on social and ecological change. A founder member of the Climate Coaching Alliance, she is a speaker and trainer with Extinction Rebellion and runs free ‘climate cafes’. She writes on the climate crisis for coaching and therapy magazines.

Amanda Howson said the event is ‘also a great opportunity to see the Meeting house, which is only open a few times a year’. It is one of the oldest, built in 1675.
