Why do we allow the suffering to continue?

My spiritual basis for this question is simple: take heed to the promptings of love and truth in your heart when you see children stressed out and working late into the night on their essays, not out of love for the subject (which might have been there but has now gone) but out of fear of what might happen tomorrow, or in the rest of their lives, if they don’t get the required grade.
