American Friends move to end mass incarceration
New Quaker Network to End Mass Incarceration formed
The American Friends Service Committee (AFSC) has announced the launch of a new initiative, the Quaker Network to End Mass Incarceration (QNEMI).
The organisation is open to all individuals and organisations working to end the mass incarceration of prisoners in the United States. It aims to contribute to nationwide efforts by facilitating an exchange of resources between those involved, by helping them find other activists, by facilitating discussions and by supporting new initiatives through joint campaigns.
According to QNEMI, in the last four decades, the rate of incarceration in the United States has more than quadrupled. It now imprisons more people than any other country in the world.
