Adam Clarke is the new director of The Leaveners, the Quaker community arts project founded in 1978.  Adam has extensive experience in the arts. He has worked as a practicing contemporary artist throughout the UK, specialising in arts and ecology, while continuing to nurture a career in projects/events management and creative writing.

He was the co-founder of the Cheltenham Film Festival, which he ran for three years as the managing and creative director.

He said: ‘I’m very excited to be taking on this role, and look forward to building on the past successes of The Leaveners. I very much look forward to continuing the organisation’s work, while exploring new ways to further engage with the Quaker community and beyond; creating a dynamic programme of workshops and events that encourage a meaningful engagement with the creative arts, that can both enrich and inspire through shared experiences.’

The Leaveners’ work includes events such as The Gates of Greenham, first performed in the Royal Festival Hall, and the recent performance of The Nayler Passion at the Birmingham Conservatoire.

With the help of a team of volunteers, the Leaveners run workshops and residential projects ranging from music making and creative arts to theatre and performance, raising the creative spirit for people of ages, both Quaker and non-Quaker, but with a particular emphasis on working with young people across the UK.

The Leaveners is funded through donations from Meetings and individuals, and by grants from a number of trusts, especially the Joseph Rowntree Charitable Trust.
