Activism for peace
Friends attended the annual conference of the Peace Pledge Union
quakers were among pacifists and anti-militarists from around Britain who attended the annual conference of the Peace Pledge Union (PPU).
‘Remember & Resist: Grassroots action for peace’ took place at Friends House on 12 May and followed the PPU’s annual general meeting earlier that day.
Topics included the growth of military visits to schools, and the ongoing allegations of abuse of teenage recruits by army instructors. Leicester-based poet Ambrose Muisiyiwa gave a speech on the impact of militarism on local communities.
