A ‘virtual Area Meeting’

Lucy Pollard describes an innovative alternative to traditional practice

A few days before we were due to hold our January Area Meeting (AM), the forecast was for heavy snow. We cover, in Ipswich and Diss, quite a wide geographical area: many of our members and attenders live in the more rural parts of it. Like other AMs, we have an elderly membership. My assistant clerk and I were concerned that Friends would be hesitant about coming out if the weather was really bad. They might also worry about being able to get home in the dark. Our Meeting was due to be held on Sunday afternoon. After consultation with other Friends, we decided that the best course would be to cancel AM.
