Meeting for Sufferings: BYM trustees report

'£150,000 Earmarked for research into reparations.'

After a shuffle break, Robert Card welcomed Marisa Johnson, the new clerk to BYM trustees, to give a report. Marisa began by paying tribute to her predecessors and welcoming new trustees. She talked about the experience of being a trustee at a time when, she felt, some Friends were suspicious or even critical of the role. Some recent posts on social media had disheartened her. ‘I am bewildered by these misconceptions,’ she said. Trustees were not ‘hungry for power… All we are is willing to serve.’ It was a heartfelt expression. ‘Our only job is to deliver what Yearly Meeting has deliberated on.’
