From a Quaker garden in Malvern to Karen Armstrong

Quaker Garden stays in Malvern

Friends reading the letters page in recent weeks have no need to regret the transience of the Quaker Meeting Place Garden (described 11 June). Malvern Quakers also felt that it was a shame for such a lovely creation to disappear so decided to buy it. Having been disassembled after the Three Counties Spring Gardening Show (where it won a silver medal), the garden is now being resurrected by the designer, Matthew Jackson, of Topiarus Horticulture.

The chosen site is outside Malvern Youth Centre. This has several advantages: the garden is clearly visible from the road; it can be available to everyone living in the Malvern area; the Transition/Sustainable Living organisation is already working with young people at the youth centre and will teach them how to maintain the garden. The Princes Trust have also become involved in the work. A community partnership has thus grown up around the garden, which is a novel way of representing Quakers to local people and to our many visitors.  Further background details are available on the Quaker website at http://www.quaker.org.uk/malvern-gardening-show-includes-quaker-garden.
