From truth to same sex marriage

What is truth?

In the Friend (8 February), Joy Croft, when introducing the first session of Meeting for Sufferings, said that in worship we connect with ‘the collective spirit, wider truth (my italics) and with God’.

Then in the article on the National Outreach Conference, in the same issue, Paul Parker quotes from the 2012 Whoosh! epistle: ‘Growing numbers of people have rejected all claims to absolute truth… This could be a “transition moment” for British Quakers.’

Joy wants us to connect with ‘wider truth’, Paul seems to think that we are among those who have rejected ‘absolute truth’.

Could anyone help me understand where truth is now among Friends? Is it still a testimony?
