From time to time throughout history there arises the occasional remarkable human being who has the capacity to see the world as it actually is. I would include in this group all the founders of the great world religions: Moses, Gautama, Jesus of Nazareth and Muhammad.

Their experience seems to them to be so exciting, so awe-inspiring, so mind-blowing that they want to communicate it to those around them. They try to put words to it using the language, the metaphors, the images and concrete examples of their own time and culture – and this is the beginning of a new religion.
