Quaker poems for Gaza
Quaker Barbara Davey has had work published as part of an online Gaza project
A St Andrews Friend’s poems have been published in an online Gaza project organised by the Association of Scottish Artists for Peace.
Barbara Davey told the Friend: ‘I don’t watch the television, the news, but I do read the paper and these three short poems are a response to articles I’ve read, photographs I’ve seen. The poems can speak for themselves – I’ll say no more other than they are not in any way about taking sides. The poems were written in a spirit of affirmation, simply bearing witness.’
The association started the project as ‘the war in Gaza continues to raise more questions that it solves. That is the nature of war’.
The group also asks: ‘why do the UK and many of its Western allies continue to support the Israeli action by supplying arms? Why did US president Joe Biden allow Benjamin Netanyahu to come on a state visit to America?’
The poems can be seen on the Dove Tales website under the ‘Gaza’ heading.
