Patchwork quilts and eiderdowns
'Patchwork quilts and eiderdowns' by Peter Smith
The forest is alight this year, the trees they are ablaze
October’s colours fill the woods, in a million joyous ways
The ash leaves burn whilst the oak leaves sway
To Mother Nature’s last hoorah on blustery, windswept days
And the leaves they fall, for fall they must
The bronzes and silvers, the purples and rusts
They twist and spin those fiery reds
For this patchwork quilt on the forest bed
It’s autumn’s wondrous colour scheme
The lemons, limes and tangerines
The rusty browns, the hazy creams
As we kick and scrunch through the gold’s and greens
Then the cold winds come and the snows swirl round
To change this quilt for an eiderdown
With the trees stripped bare and the stars set free
To light up the forest like a Christmas tree
