Michael Hutchinson retires after twenty-two years
Michael Hutchinson retires this week after nearly twenty-two years as assistant recording clerk of Britain Yearly Meeting. Many Friends around the country will know Michael in this role, which has mainly been about church governance. For several years he was also general secretary of Quaker Life.
Michael, who became a Quaker as a teenager, reflects that the Society has changed in those years with a widening of membership, less family based.
Recording clerk, Paul Parker, noted Michael’s faithful service, wisdom, experience of Friends and their ways, steady hand and sense of humour. He added: ‘We will miss Michael’s long memory, his deep understanding of how our Yearly Meeting works, and his attention to detail. We wish particularly to recognise Michael’s commitment during the period when he served as acting recording clerk. Michael goes into his retirement with our prayers and love.’
