Meeting for Sufferings: Britain Yearly Meeting trustees report
Jennifer Barraclough spoke to the minutes of the BYM trustees meeting held in January
Jennifer Barraclough, clerk of Britain Yearly Meeting (BYM) trustees, spoke to the minutes of the BYM trustees meeting held on 30-31 January.
Jennifer said that she wanted to highlight one or two of the issues minuted. She began by thanking Meeting for Sufferings for its help and support over the Lobbying Act. She confirmed that Britain Yearly Meeting has registered. This would give the Society a platform for living in a civil society, she said.
The second subject highlighted was that of zero-hours contracts. Jennifer explained that Friends House is experiencing an employment dispute. These have arisen before, and will do so again, she added.
Jennifer said that BYM had tried to respond ‘with respect for people and processes’ and that a full statement could be found on the BYM website. She added that Sufferings’ support was essential.
A Friend asked what stage the dispute had reached. Jennifer replied that the specifics were long and detailed.
‘I don’t want to minimise its importance,’ she said, suggesting that the Friend look at the online statement.
The Friend then asked what message he could take back to his Area Meeting.
Jennifer replied: ‘An employment issue is in the process of being resolved in as supportive a way as possible.’
She urged Friends to look at the statement on the website.
