From the crucifixion to election hustings
Christ on the cover
I would like to answer Paul Honigmann (letters, 16 April) on the subject of the Friend’s Easter cover. Friends have a testimony against rites and ceremonies in religion haven’t we? The traditional Christian celebrations of Easter involve both.
I don’t think many Friends in Britain Yearly Meeting (BYM) now accept the theological premises of the other churches (reiterated by Benedict XVI in his Easter homily), that Jesus came down from heaven and was crucified ‘for our salvation’ as ‘a full, perfect, and sufficient sacrifice, oblation and satisfaction, for the sins of the whole world,’ nor do we believe in a God that requires such placatory sacrifice.

Marian Hussenbux wrote, “Fish are not some species of aquatic vegetable ...”.
This might seem an obvious statement, except that when I tell people that I am a vegetarian, many of them ask, “Do you eat fish?”.
