The Lakenheath Alliance for Peace (LAP) is a coalition of nearly fifty British and international peace groups. These have come together to protest existing militaristic installations, and the threatened stationing of nuclear weapons, at RAF Lakenheath airbase. The LAP invites you to take part in an international peace camp from 14–26 April.

RAF Lakenheath is in reality USAF Lakenheath, the largest US airbase in Europe. It is assigned to United States air forces in Europe and Africa. It maintains combat-ready wings that are pledged to NATO.

US nuclear weapons were stationed at Lakenheath until 2008, when they were removed under popular pressure. In recent years, evidence has come to light revealing their imminent return. This would represent a major provocation at a time of escalating tensions.

‘Your presence and contribution will make a real difference.’

The April peace camp will be a major landmark within an already-rich history of protests at Lakenheath. Significant days of action have taken place for two years now, involving the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament and many others. Hundreds of protesters gathered for a first peace camp in July 2024; LAP is open to all groups and individuals who share its aims and its absolute commitment to nonviolence.

The peace camp will present a unique opportunity to meet campaigners from diverse countries and backgrounds. Accommodation will be provided at a campsite near the airbase, where workshops and informal meetings will be held throughout the camp. Vigils and various forms of actions and protests will be held at the base, culminating with a blockade on Saturday 26 April. The schedule is available at: https://lakenheathallianceforpeace.org.uk/peace-camp-events

More than 800 US airbases are dotted across our planet, and they impact local, regional and national economies, communities, and politics, in a myriad of ways. The diverse forms of their impact will be the main theme of an international peace conference to be held as part of the peace camp

Please join us at the international conference, and for as much of the peace camp as you are able. If you would like to run a workshop at some point, concerning related themes or campaigns in Germany, it would be greatly appreciated. Your presence and contribution will in any case make a real difference.

Lakenheath is approximately two hours from London by car or train. All local transport and accommodation will be taken care of. You can sign up at https://lakenheathallianceforpeace.org.uk/sign-up.
