My elation and joy at hearing that Britain Yearly Meeting had decided to adopt the same processes for the reporting of same-sex partnerships died less than twenty-four hours later with news of a shooting in Tel Aviv. Set against the sheer volumes of violence in Israel/Palestine, two dead and fifteen injured might hardly register. This act was described by the Israeli authorities as ‘
a criminal not a nationalist act’, a curious recognition of Palestinian aspirations.
