Eightieth anniversary of atomic bombings
Commemorative events are being held across the UK
Quakers around the country are marking the eightieth anniversary year of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki this week. Commemorative events are being held across the UK, including in Glasgow, Sidmouth, Brighton, and Friends House in London, which will host an event organised by the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament on 9 August. This will include a showing of the film Silent Fallout and a short talk on ‘the important and stirring photography’ of Joe O’Donnell, who documented the aftermath of the bombings in 1945.
