The Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Company, based in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), owns the ExCeL Centre in Newham, London. The UAE also forms part of the Saudi-led coalition bombing Yemeni civilians. The country has a dismal record of coercion. Human Rights Watch has documented abuses by proxy forces under UAE leadership, including the use of excessive force during arrests, detaining family members of suspects, and imprisoning children. Former detainees and their relatives have reported abuse and torture inside UAE facilities. Yemeni activists criticising these abuses have been threatened, detained and ‘disappeared’.
