Scottish gallery ends BP partnership

Friends welcomed the news that National Galleries Scotland has announced it will end its controversial relationship with BP

There was good news for the many Quakers involved in protests against the petrochemical giant BP’s arts sponsoring this month when National Galleries Scotland announced that it will end its controversial relationship with the oil company in order ‘to address the climate emergency’. Climate campaigners hailed the news as ‘seismic’ when the gallery said that after the BP Portrait Award 2019 exhibition, which opens on 7 December, the Award will no longer tour to the Scottish National Portrait Gallery ‘in its present form’.
