From gardens as outreach to teddy bears

We’re the Quakers

Bunhill Fields Garden. | Jez Smith

There are many different ways to do outreach. Over the past few years you’ll have seen many methods, some of which have been covered on these pages. Eye notices that gardens are becoming popular (were they ever unpopular?). Seaford’s garden and Matt Jackman’s Malvern garden being two recently covered in the Friend.

Bunhill Fields Friends recently found a novel way to get some free publicity by entering their garden (above) for a competition.

They call it ‘the gardening competition you don’t need to have a garden to enter.’ London’s Green Corner Awards are given out monthly by the Conservation Foundation.

Bunhill Fields was entered into the Sacred Places category and won – leading to a free splash in their local newspaper.

This is a London-based competition but Eye hopes to hear from Friends around the Yearly Meeting who have found other ways to promote their Meetings and spaces – gentle ways of outreach.
