Young Friends look inwards for inclusiveness
Adult Young Friends (AYF) at the Friends General Conference Annual Gathering in Blacksburg, Virginia, which brought together 1,200 Quakers from across North America earlier this month, spent much of the week focusing on issues of identity, in a move parallel to that of Young Friends General Meeting (YFGM) in Britain.
‘It seems like Adult Young Friends think of themselves in a hard place because they’re transitioning out of or back into school, they may not have families or careers set up yet, they may not have a stable faith community. Because Gathering is a yearly thing it’s helpful for it to be as stable, predictable and reliable as possible.’
